Rotation Of Videos Available

We now have a total of 100 gigs of storage, although I've got my program internally set to target 92 gigs (it'll never be exact and I want a buffer). I might increase that to 95 gigs for a little extra.

As of yesterday, I tried my first round of "partial updates" and specifically included new videos to make sure that my theory worked. It does! (Yes, I'm impressed )

The way that I'll be doing them now is that rather than pulling all of them then uploading the next bunch (100 gigs would take me about three solid days to upload), I now have it looking for the oldest ones first, then deleting those up to it's setpoint which is 10% (around 10 gigs). It then adds back what it can, uploads those, and on it goes. This first test run puts 171 videos available.

This seems to work ok, although I've only done it this one time. I'll be monitoring how it goes as time progresses.

I do have a question for everyone though, and that's this: In this first test, it took around six (6) hours to run through the whole process, including the upload of the next partial bunch.

How often should I do this?

I've twisted my mind back and forth on this one and I see good and bad no matter how I answer it, so I'd really appreciate your input on it.

Thanks

Forum: Hodgepodge Videos

Update Regarding The Hodgepodge Videos (11-11-09)

Please read the thread of 10-31-09 if you haven't already. This is an update to that.

We now have the first "test" of the new server going. Presently there are 92 videos available for download, which includes all of the new ones which we were preparing before we got the door slammed in our face (and just for the record, I offered to pay them FIVE TIMES my agreed contract price, and they told me ... I'll suffice to say that they rejected my offer).

As I said in the previous thread, this is hardly the ideal situation, but I hope that it's better than nothing at all. Right now I want to wait at least a week - possibly more - before I do any additions or cycling through other videos to have available or anything. It's all quite new and we need to see how the program modifications will work out, how the new file hosting situation is working out, what sort of download speeds everyone is getting and all that.

I did notice a problem though, and this is strictly on my end. All of the Flash files for all of the new videos added are WRONG! Oh they work ... but if you'll look at them, you'll see the issue. We'll get that fixed in the next day or two, so please know that I'm aware of it.

Let me know how it's working and if you run into a problem, let me know either by replying here or in an e-mail to me at frank@picsbyob.com

I hope this will all work out and if so, I'll work toward increasing the storage size in the forthcoming months.

Forum: Hodgepodge Videos

Update Regarding The Hodgepodge Videos (10-31-09)

To all:

We have been trying to deal with a situation “behind the scenes” and we hoped to reach a reasonable resolution but it doesn’t look to be that we’ll succeed in our quest.

I’ll make a long (very long) story short and just explain now that the Hodgepodge videos may be removed from the server. Not by us nor because of lack of trying to keep them there, but – due to the huge total file size (nearly a half terabyte now, and adding) – it has come under scrutiny of the web host.

They are throwing all sorts of little ‘gotcha’ clauses that are in the fine print of their TOS at us trying to get us to remove the content and it’s gotten to the point that I might even consider litigation … although it’d really be a moot point once they pull them. It would take MONTHS to upload that much back, just to then have them delete them again. They know they have the ultimate upper hand here.

We’ll come up with some sort of solution (what, I have no clue right now, but something), but we first wanted to let you know what was going on and suggest that any videos that you want, please spend some time and get them downloading!

One issue that I have to reckon with is that I need to modify the format of the files that are on the remote server. I won’t go into why, but trust me – I realize that I do need to modify some of the key characteristics and if I have to upload them all again anyway, then I may as well curtail future issues now by doing so on the front end.

I am going to need to modify my program (not only the desktop program itself but the program on my end that creates the files), neither of which is a small undertaking and, as Murphy has always managed to do it, the timing couldn’t be worse. I have a lot going on with my job (yes, we do actually have real jobs!) and I don’t have the time to dedicate to it right now. Even if I did, it’d be weeks in the making.

I have been thinking about a complete “redo” of the program anyway, although I sure never thought I’d be forced into it as I now see may be an inevitability.

If you have ideas about how you’d like to see the new version of the Hodgepodge program work, we’d be very interested in hearing your thoughts. I can’t promise I can deliver on something that you have in mind, but I can try! Send me an e-mail or post your thoughts on this message board.

In conclusion, we apologize for this. Trust me when I say that we’ve been wrangling with this thing for about two weeks and only now because it looks like we’re losing the battle am I making this announcement.

I’ll try to answer some obvious questions:

1) “How long do I have? When will they pull them from the server?"

I don’t know. It might be next week, maybe this weekend, maybe they’re gone now. It’s up to them so I won’t try to second guess their moves.

2) “Assuming they do pull them, when will they be available for download again?”

You’re not going to like this answer I’m sure, but it will be at least sometime after the end of this year – possibly even into February, though I hope not that long.

As I stated earlier, it’d be foolish to try to come up with some sort of patchwork deal just to have to repeat it. I need to make some core changes to the fundamentals (again, I won’t go into it – at least not in a public forum), so that’s the part that’ll take a while, then of course the very lengthy uploading process itself.

Like I said though … we’ll come up with something (we always do). Right now I have no idea just what, but we’ve been “beaten up and come back” before, and we’ll do it again.

Now quit reading and get to downloading! :-o

Forum: Hodgepodge Videos

Hey Frank and Julie, we're a couple that hadn't checked out your site for a really long time, but remember having fun browsing it before. Taking a look through it tonight when we were in the mood for a little cyberforeplay, we were reminded of all the great photos, but question for you two: Are the high-resolution (or maybe super high-resolution) images no longer available? Or is it accessible via the downloadable program? Guessing you just might not have the bandwidth, but those huge pics were great before. (We were smiling at one of the group sex scenes--your threesomes & moresomes collections were always killer--but said "Oooh, if only iamges like http://www.picsbyob-cache.com/Images/Group/MoreSomes/Series_0019/slides/0130.jpg would fill up our new cool supersize laptop screen!)
Forum: New Ideas

Thanks a lot!

I did some research on the director, Stephen Lucas, and as far as I can tell, he's only ever worked on four movies. They might be worth looking into. If they're anywhere near as good as 1001 Erotic Nights, they may be worthy additions to your library.

(I wasn't sure if I should post this here, or in the OBCS Videos forum)

Forum: Hodgepodge Videos

I'm curious, though, as to why we need to install an update every time new videos are added?
first impressions, I like it!

Hi Frank!

I just thought I'd give you some feedback on your new piece of software.

First of all, it looks and feels great! From what I understand you're not a professional programmer, but it looks like you've done a really good job on this one. I've only used it for about an hour, though, but I'll tell you if I experience any nasty crashes or notice anything about it that I think could be somehow improved.

The interface is intuitive and easy to use. The preview-window is very helpful in finding videos worth downloading, and I'm pleased to see the streaming starts almost instantly and doesn't to stop to buffer too often.

I've only seen a very few of the videos so far, but just as with your picture series, there seems to be a great many videos to my liking, and really, there should be something for everyone.

As a poor student, I haven't donated anything yet, not until I've tested it for a while and decided it's worth it, though $15 isn't much at all for such a product. There's a good chance I'll donate, to get full speed downloads, and because I love your site!

That said, I've so far noticed three things in your program that I believe to be bugs.

When I select a video from the list, the entire line is blacked out. It's not a big deal, though, as more detailed information is given right of the preview, but changing the text to white to make it still readable while selected should be relatively easy.

I was promised to be able to download two videos simultaneously, but when I'm downloading one video, the button for adding videos to the download list gets grayed out. If I am to guess, I'd say you have a <2 somewhere you should have a <=2.

When I'm downloading a video, the preview of videos no longer runs smoothly. It's showing roughly one frame per second, enough to see if the videos are worth downloading, but not enough to truly enjoy the previews while waiting for a complete video to download.

I'm running Windows XP on a laptop that was very powerful two years ago. I'm installing Windows 7 later this week, and I'll test your program after that to see if it runs any better or worse.

To sum up; I love it, thanks a lot!

Forum: Hodgepodge Videos
